The Senior Minister for Transport & Mass Transit, Excise & Taxation (E&T), Narcotics Control, and Information in Sindh announced on Monday that starting from May 10, the E&T department will initiate measures against unregistered vehicles. Additionally, he reveals plans for random drug testing of students in educational institutions.
Addressing the media at the Social & Electronic Media Directorate of the information department, Sharjeel Memon emphasized the global challenge of drug abuse faced by societies worldwide.
He underscored the importance of safeguarding the youth studying in universities, colleges, and schools, asserting their significance as valuable assets to the nation. Memon stressed the necessity to shield them, along with public and private educational institutions, from the perils of drug addiction.
Highlighting the persistence of the drug menace in the province, Memon assured that the government’s crackdown would persist until its eradication. He acknowledged the support of all government departments, particularly Home Minister Ziaul Hassan, in the extensive anti-drug efforts.
Moreover, Memon revealed that during President Asif Zardari’s recent visit to Karachi, he had issued special directives to the provincial government to combat drug abuse effectively.
He detailed the proactive measures taken by the E&T department and the Sindh police, under the chief minister’s supervision, against drug trafficking over the past month and a half. Memon emphasized a further escalation of enforcement actions, with the involvement of the police, Rangers, E&T department, and the Anti-Narcotics Force.
