KARACHI: The Sindh Local Government has accepted the Supreme Court’s orders as it had ordered not to appoint diploma holder engineers to the posts of the engineering department.
Following the orders of the Supreme Court, the local government ordered the provincial secretaries, including agriculture, irrigation, public health engineering works and services, and other departments to ensure the implementation of the Supreme Court’s order.
According to the official notification, diploma holders’ engineers shall not be appointed to the posts of the engineering department. In this regard, the local body administrators have also been directed to submit a report within a week.
Earlier this year, the Sindh government finally surrendered to Pakistan Engineering Council’s (PEC) contention against employing B-tech and diploma holders in the engineering positions.
The Sindh government failed to comply with the October 3, 2018, Supreme Court order and kept delaying the removal of hundreds of non-qualified engineers from top positions of engineering, reportedly dozens of non-qualified engineers remained posted on BPS-19 and BPS-18 positions.
Pakistan Engineering Council’s (PEC) had moved into the Supreme Court against the induction of B-Tech graduates and diploma holders at BPS-17, PBS-18, and BPS-19 grades. Supreme Court ruled in favor of the PEC on October 3rd, 2018.
