Shehryar Afridi and Ali Muhammad Khan, leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), were detained shortly after their release from Rawalpindi’s Adiala jail on Tuesday as part of the ongoing campaign against the party in relation to the May 9 riots.
In accordance with Section 3 of the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) Ordinance 1960, which permits the government to detain anybody “acting in any manner prejudicial to public safety,” Afridi and his wife were arrested on May 16 at their apartment in Islamabad. However, his wife was eventually released on the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decisions.

Similarly, Ali Muhammad was arrested from Islamabad on May 21 by Islamabad police under Section 3 of MPO.
He was released from the custody earlier today on order of Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi Bench.
