The Sharif family has dismissed recent reports claiming that Junaid Safdar, son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, was on a honeymoon trip to Vienna aboard the provincial government’s new jet.

Last month, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz came under intense criticism from opposition leaders and certain journalists over the provincial government’s purchase of a new aircraft. The 19-seater Gulfstream jet, intended for the CM’s official use, is valued between $38 million and $42 million (over Rs10 billion).

In an official statement, the family clarified that Junaid Safdar is at his Raiwind residence with his wife. Spokespersons condemned the reports as “false and fabricated” and reserved the right to pursue legal action against those spreading the misinformation.

Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said the government has decided to take legal measures against individuals and platforms involved in what she called a “malicious campaign” targeting the provincial administration over the acquisition of the Gulfstream 19-seater jet, valued at $38–42 million.

“The defamation campaign will not go unanswered,” Aurangzeb warned, adding that anyone attempting to malign institutions or mislead the public will face action under the Defamation Law 2024.
