Saudi Arabia has installed reportedly the world’s largest cooling system in Makkah’s Grand Mosque to ensure comfortable environment for pilgrims during Hajj 2025.
The General Authority for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques operates an advanced cooling system for the Grand Mosque, enabling worshippers to carry out their rituals in a cool, fresh atmosphere, even in the shimmering summer heat.
The sophisticated plant is being fed with air-conditioned water by the two main cooling plants: the Shamiya Station has a capacity of 120,000 refrigeration tons, whereas the Ajyad Station supplies 35,000 refrigeration tons. These stations serve extensive prayer halls and various extensions of the mosque.
The system operates around the clock, assuring a steady temperature range between 22ºC and 24ºC inside the mosque. Besides temperature control, it employs most modern technology to purify the air and eliminate up to 95 percent of impurities suspended in it, allowing millions of pilgrims to breathe clean air.
For guaranteed uninterrupted service, especially during the high-demand Hajj season, the authority provides continuous maintenance and monitoring of the plant, including replacing any parts regularly, securing areas under operation, and managing available resources to continuously ensure reliability and performance.
