Heavy rain lashed the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, along with adjoining areas, over the past 24 hours, bringing much-needed relief to residents who had been enduring intense heat for the past several weeks.
Rainfall was also reported from parts of Gujrat and Narowal.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the rain-producing system is expected to intensify over the next 24 hours.
Under the influence of this system, thundershowers are likely in the Potohar region of Punjab, including Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Murree, Galyat, and Rawalpindi. Rain is also expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), particularly in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sadhnoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.
Similarly, heavy rainfall is anticipated in parts of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, and Mardan.
Rain is also forecast for Gujrat, Gujranwala, Narowal, Lahore, and Sialkot during the same period.
The Met Office has warned that heavy rainfall may lead to urban flooding in cities such as Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Lahore, and Gujranwala.
There is also a risk of flooding in streams and nullahs across AJK, Murree, Galyat, and Mansehra.
Additionally, the department cautioned about the possibility of landslides in mountainous areas, particularly in upper KP, Murree, Galyat, and parts of Kashmir.
Visitors to these regions have been advised to exercise caution.
Authorities and relevant departments have been urged to remain alert and take necessary precautions to handle any emergencies. Karachi and some other parts of Sindh are expected to receive light rain today.
