On the first trading day of the week, the Pakistani rupee (PKR) saw a positive start, gaining 0.01% against the US dollar (USD) in the open market during the initial trading hours on Monday. By 10:30 AM, the rupee had appreciated by 22 paisa, trading at Rs277.83 per USD.
The Pakistani rupee had closed the previous week with a loss of 29 paisa, settling at Rs278.05 per USD after five trading sessions.
In the current financial year, the rupee has gained approximately 29 paisa against the dollar, reflecting a slight 0.10% growth. Since the start of 2024, the rupee has strengthened by Rs3.81, or 1.37%, against the US dollar.
Here’s how the PKR performed against other major foreign currencies on the previous trading day:
- The rupee dropped by Rs1.17, or 0.40%, against the Euro, closing at Rs294.
- It gained 0.34%, or Rs1.06, against the Swiss franc, finishing at Rs315.45.
- The Japanese yen rose by 1.74% (2.14 paisa), closing at Rs1.85.
- The rupee appreciated by 0.02% (1.54 paisa) against the Saudi Riyal, closing at Rs74.02, while it dropped by 0.16 paisa against the UAE Dirham, ending the week at Rs75.70.
