Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) arrested a highly wanted terrorist affiliated with Fitna al-Khawarij during an operation in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
According to a Rangers spokesperson, the suspect, Dost Muhammad son of Gul Faraz Khan, hails from Bajaur.
He was allegedly involved in a November 2020 attack, along with accomplices, on the Assistant Commissioner of Nawagai in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during which firing took place and government machinery was set ablaze.
Officials said a case regarding the incident was registered with the CTD Malakand Region under serious terrorism charges. After the attack, the suspect had gone into hiding in Karachi.
Rangers officials further said that the arrested militant was planning terrorist activities at sensitive locations in the city along with other accomplices. Raids are underway to apprehend his associates.
The spokesperson added that the suspect has been handed over to the CTD police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for further legal proceedings.
Earlier this week, law enforcement agencies in Karachi foiled a major terrorism plot. In a joint operation in Chakragoth, Korangi, Rangers and CTD arrested three highly wanted facilitators linked to Fitna al-Hindustan.
According to the Rangers spokesperson, the suspects were identified as Yasir Arafat, Khuda Bakhsh, and Zahid Hussain alias Barkazai. During the operation, authorities recovered five kilograms of explosive material, 10 meters of prima cord, three detonators, and one kilogram of ball bearings.
Approximately 250 books containing extremist material and a laptop were also seized.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in radicalizing students to recruit them into a banned organization and were supplying extremist literature in educational institutions.
