Quaid-e-Azam worries about Karachi

Syed Ali Sajjad by Syed Ali Sajjad

Reading Time: 2 mins read

A few days earlier, I went to a shop at the intersection between heaven and hell to buy a cigar. There was a newspaper stall next to the shop. For your information, Karachi newspapers are banned in both heaven and hell. In Heaven, the situation of Karachi makes residents so depressed that they feel like they are in hell. And in Hell, these news are a source of joy for the convicted criminals.

As usual, I picked up the Dawn newspaper, the newspaper I was deeply involved with. The literal meaning of Dawn is probably ‘Subha Sadiq’. After reading the newspaper, I witnessed that the problems in Karachi are increasing day by day. A report stated that gutters in several areas of Karachi are boiling (overflowing), we haven’t even thought of boiling anything other than a tea.

I was very surprised after reading other news that Karachi people buy three types of water: Water for drinking, water for cooking and water for other necessities. However, I only saw two types of water, where Ganga and Yamuna meet.

A scarce resource in most towns, the inequitable distribution of water has aggravated the crisis in the city as citizens are compelled to buy water at exorbitant rates.

Surprisingly, in the same city of Karachi where the residents had built drinking pools on each furlong where animals used to drink clean water. But now humans are struggling for clean water.

Another report revealed that people are being killed in Karachi over the sectarian ground, I was very upset after reading this. After partition, I used to get sad for many days after hearing the news of riots. However, I hoped that in future the fate of the citizens of Pakistan will be at peace, but still the people of Karachi are witnessing killings every day.

A further report stated that immoral activities were being performed at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. I was reading the newspaper when Allama Iqbal also came to the shop to buy tobacco for hookah. When I informed him about the ongoing situation of Karachi, Allama Iqbal broke into tears. Since then, Iqbal hasn’t slept. Remember he is the same Iqbal who dreamed of Pakistan, he says he will not dream anymore.
