KARACHI: Torrential rains continued to lash several parts of Karachi on Thursday as water started accumulating on main roads across the city.
Saddar, M.A. Jinnah Road, Nursery, Baloch Colony, SITE Area, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad and other parts of the city received heavy downpours.
The heavy rainfall has badly affected infrastructure and routine life as several areas are inundated resulting in heavy losses to properties.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that Karachi can receive heavy showers by afternoon, after receiving light to heavy showers in certain parts of the city.
Met Department’s director said there is still low air pressure over the Arabian Sea and southern Sindh, while another system is entering the city from Balochistan. He said that it was due to the pressure that Karachi was experiencing heavy rains.
The Hub Dam is almost full and is expected to reach its full storage capacity of 339 feet. According to the chief engineer Ehtesham-ul-Haq, every hour 0.2ft of water enters the dam and it is expected that the dam will fill its capacity today.
He said that the excess water will spill from the dam onto the Hub river and into the sea leading up to Mubarak Village. He said that villages that come in the way have been warned about the excess water.
