ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has criticized the PTI-led federal government for excluding coronavirus measures in the federal budget 2020-21.
Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly today (Tuesday), Bilawal Bhutto said that PTI’s Budget 2020-21 forgot that country was suffering through a pandemic.
He questioned, “Did PTI make efforts to prepare the budget according to the coronavirus’ needs? Have we increased the salaries of doctors and nurses? Did they get a risk allowance? How much has been spent on corona risk awareness?”
“PTI government had opposed every possible measure to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in the country,” the PPP chairman claimed.
Bilawal Bhutto further said, “From the very first day, Sindh government was clear about the challenges of the pandemic,” adding, “PTI-led federal government is still confused.”
“Sindh government always opined that country’s topmost priority should have been to test on a war scale and then trace contacts. That’s how other countries had defeated it,” he added.
He claimed that the Sindh government was listening to doctors and nurses, while the federal government was listening to businessmen, elites, and ATM machines. He also termed the government’s excuse for not imposing a lockdown as “rubbish”.
Quoting the example of Vietnam, he said that Vietnam successfully defeated the virus because they fought like a unified nation. “They traced every single positive case from the beginning and today, Vietnam has saved the lives of its people as well as its economy,” he added.
