KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) opened Friday’s session on a weak footing, with the benchmark KSE‑100 Index falling 484 points to 177,639.41 by 9:40am.
The downturn reflected broad‑based declines across major indices, as banking and energy counters weighed on sentiment.
Market data showed trading volume at 69.3 million shares, valued at Rs3.1 billion across 35,310 transactions. Out of 566 active symbols, 217 declined, 151 advanced, while 198 remained unchanged — underscoring a cautious investor mood.
Other indices also retreated: the All‑Share Index slipped 293 points to 107,626.77, the KSE‑30 lost 98 points to 53,065.29, while the KMI‑30 fell 363 points to 250,383.07. The Banking Index (BKTI) dropped 163 points to 50,366.68.
Analysts noted that the decline follows a week of mixed momentum, where earlier gains in banking and cement sectors had buoyed sentiment. “Profit‑taking ahead of the weekend and uncertainty over external financing have prompted investors to adopt a defensive stance,” a brokerage note observed.
Market watchers cautioned that clarity on IMF policy reviews and fiscal measures will remain pivotal in determining the PSX’s trajectory in the coming sessions.
