Prices of 12 essential commodities including tomatoes, onions, garlic, and sugar, have increased on the eve of the holy month of Ramadan.
Inflation has risen to 4.84 per cent on an annual basis. Over the past year, tomato prices surged by 80 per cent, flour by 35 per cent, and gas by up to 30 per cent.
According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, inflation recorded a weekly increase of 0.09 per cent last week, taking the year-on-year rate to 4.84 per cent. Prices of tomatoes, onions, garlic, moong and mash pulses, mutton, sugar, and diesel increased during the week, while 13 items, including wheat flour and eggs, became cheaper.
Tomato prices rose by 12.78 per cent in one week, with the average price recorded at Rs111 per kilogram.
Onion prices also increased, averaging Rs70 per kilogram. Garlic prices climbed by 5.45 per cent and were sold at an average of Rs464 per kilogram.
Sugar registered a slight increase, with the average price reaching Rs156 per kilogram. Diesel prices rose by up to 4.35 per cent during the week.
However, wheat flour prices fell by 2.89 per cent, eggs by 2.86 per cent, and masoor lentils by 1.26 per cent.
