ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi has stressed the need for giving marketable skills to persons with disabilities (PWDs) and directed the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) to devise outstanding training units to meet the challenges of the contemporary world.
Chairing a meeting on vocational training for differently-abled persons at Aiwan-e-Sadr today, Dr. Arif Alvi stressed providing these people skilled-based training so that they could contribute to the development of the country.
He emphasized the need for financial inclusion of PWDs as well as bringing them into the mainstream education system.

The financial and educational inclusion of PWDs, who form almost 15 percent of the country’s population, was a huge challenge and it was the shared responsibility of society to play its role for their welfare by providing them jobs to make them productive citizens of the country, he added.
The President also stressed the need for collaborative efforts by the federal and provincial governments as well as the civil society to work for the skills development of differently-abled persons.
The president called for the need for bringing a change in the mindset of society to lay equal emphasis on the education of persons with disabilities.
On this occasion, Chairman NAVTTC, Syed Javed Hassan gave a presentation on the initiatives, taken by NAVTCC to create an enabling environment for PWDs. Syed Javed highlighted that plans were afoot to give marketable skills, high-technical training and assistive technology to differently-abled persons.
He said that they will ensure the need for imparting quality education to differently-abled persons without discrimination as it was directly linked with the development of any nation.
