PPP to challenge PECA ordinance: Gilani

LAHORE: Opposition Leader of Senate and leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Syed Yousuf Raza Gillanion Monday announced that they will challenges Prevention of Electronic Crimes (PECA) Amendment Ordinance in court.

Former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gillani, while addressing a press conference, said that the government wants to restrict the media out of fear and the PTI is doing all of this to conceal its incompetency.

PPP leader also bashed the incumbent government and said people were promised 10 million employments, 5 million houses and devaluationof dollar but all promises of the government have been false and common man’s life has become very difficult due to inflation.

Yousuf Raza Gillanifurther said that PTI’s government does not believe in the institution of Parliament and that we should not ignore the parliament.

Talking about the opposition parties, he said that they areunited both inside and outside the parliament house and this is a win for democracy in the country.

On Sunday, President Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi had signed the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) Amendment Bill and Election Act Amendment Ordinance (EAAO).

According to details, the PECA Amendment Act includes the definition of a person, which includes a person, a company, an association, an institution or an authority, while the amendment bill increases the imprisonment for attacking the identity of any person from 3 to 5 years.

As per the ordinance, the aggrieved party, who will be the representative or guardian of the complainant, has been declared a felony and the offense is non-bailable.
