Addressing a news conference, PPP Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani claimed that his party had secured significant lead, and that Jamat-e-Islami (JI) was following PPP by a thin margin.
Saeed Ghani congratulated JI, saying it performed well but party was a little behind the PPP, adding that his party would talk to Jamaat-e-Islami (regarding the future set up of Karachi) as soon as the full results were out.
He further said the PPP would try to secure enough numbers to become mayor, adding that only a few independents had won, compared to those backed by parties.

Criticizing PTI, he said Khurram Sher Zaman, who was candidate to become Mayor of Karachi, lost his own UC seat as Najmi Alam, an ordinary PPP worker, defeated Zaman.
The Sindh Minister for Labour said his party would hold talks with all parties competing in local government (LG) elections except Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) regarding who will be mayor of Karachi.
He said “the people of Karachi have trusted the two parties and we have jointly won a considerable number of seats. We won’t hold talks with PTI but we will reach out to other political parties for appointing a mayor in Karachi.”
