PM to inaugurate program for empowerment of fishermen

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will launch a program on Thursday for the empowerment of fishermen.

The program will be executed in cooperation with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs under the ‘Kamyab Jawan Programme. In this regard, a signing ceremony will be held at the Prime Minister’s which will be overseen by the prime minister.

An agreement has been made with National Bank of Pakistan, Habib Bank Ltd, Bank of Punjab and Bank Al-Falah to provide subsidized loans to the fisherman community.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Haider Zaidi said that the government is taking steps to provide facilities to fishermen and improve their living standards.

The minister said that in the past, fishermen were neglected in terms of providing social security and quality of life. He said the prosperity of fishermen is their first priority and the government will create opportunities to improve the quality of fisheries and export.

He said that with the provision of easy loans, fishermen would have easy access to machine boats, modern fishing equipment, modern on-board freezing, refrigerated vehicles, storage systems, servicing and repair services and the fisheries sector would be further developed. ۔

In a statement, PTI leader Usman Dar said the program is aimed at taking forward the fisheries sector. He said loans will be provided to the fishermen on easy installments.

Usman Dar regretted that the fisheries sector was neglected by the previous governments. He said our program is an important step towards making the fishermen an important stakeholder of blue economy.
