KARACHI: Former member of Sindh Assembly and Muttahida Quami Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Kamran Akhtar has called on Prime Minister Imran Khan to provide more money to the needy during the ongoing lockdown due to the coronavirus.
As the prime minister had promised Rs 3000 monthly assistance to the needy during a lockdown, Kamran Akhtar demanded that monthly donations should be raised from Rs. 3000 to Rs. 1500 by withdrawing the money collected from the Diamer Bhasha and Mohmand Dam to protect the working class in the current emergency.
According to Kamran Akhtar, at least Rs 15,000 per eligible relief amount. Speaking to MM News TV, Kamran Akhtar said that Chief Minister Sindh and Mayor Karachi should also raise funds for public relief and for the poor. Create a committee consisting of honest people (which includes a representative of the military) and register those living below the poverty line, he added.
He further said that with the funds collected from the dam fund, it would be possible for every district to purchase modern machinery from China to manage modern spraying machines and could clean the waste from the city.
Kamran Akhtar said that it was a good time to use the funds collected from the dam fund so that the people could utilize. If the money could not be used at such a time, then the government and the people will not be able to get out of this difficult situation because we have been a poor country and we need to utilize our reserved resources, he added.
