Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has stated that electricity prices will see a significant reduction in the coming months.
While addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, the Prime Minister expressed hope that the interest rate would decrease further today, adding that if it were up to him, he would reduce the tax rate by 15%, but the IMF’s conditions are a constraint.
He emphasized that economic growth is not possible until electricity prices are reduced, and that the government is working tirelessly to bring down electricity costs. He assured that in the next few months, there will be a noticeable decrease in electricity prices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further mentioned that they are reducing expenses, noting that the Public Works Department (PWD) was a source of corruption which has now been shut down. He also revealed plans to privatize the national airline through a transparent auction process, stating that Pakistan’s private sector has the capacity to purchase the national carrier.
He reassured the public that the government is removing obstacles to investment, and that the country is seeing an increase in exports and remittances. He promised that Pakistan will soon be back on its feet.
