ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has congratulated Ashraf Ghani on being sworn in for a second term in office as the President of Afghanistan.
In a tweet, the prime minister said he is looking forward towards working with him. He said Pakistan will do everything it possibly can to bring peace and stability in the region.

I want to congratulate Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani & look forward to working with him. Pakistan will do everything it possibly can to bring peace and stability in our region.

— Imran Khan (@ImranKhanPTI) March 9, 2020

Ashraf Ghani was sworn in as the President of Afghanistan on Monday in a ceremony held his inauguration ceremony at the Presidential Palace in the capital Kabul.
The US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, charge d’affaires of the US embassy to Afghanistan Ross Wilson, Nato commander Gen Scott Miller were in attendance.
The Afghan electoral commission said incumbent Ashraf Ghani narrowly won the vote held in September last year. His main political rival Abdullah Abdullah alleged the result is fraudulent and held his own parallel inauguration.
On the occasion of swearing-in of Ashraf Ghani as Afghan President, Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for a peaceful, stable, united, sovereign, democratic and prosperous Afghanistan, at peace with itself and with its neighbours.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Aisha Farooqui issued a statement saying said the people of Pakistan are linked to the brotherly people of Afghanistan through immutable bonds of history, geography, faith, kinship, culture, language, and customs and traditions.
The spokesperson said the signing of the US-Taliban Peace Agreement in Doha has created a historic opportunity for the people of Afghanistan and a pathway to intra-Afghan negotiations.
