ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged to pay greater attention to helping the agriculture sector and small and medium sector enterprises enabling them to create greater job opportunities in the country.
The prime minister expressed these views while chairing a meeting with his economic team in Islamabad on Monday to review the economic situation in the wake of the epidemic situation.
Federal Minister for Planning Asad Umer, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Hammad Azhar, Adviser to PM on Finance and Revenue Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, PM’s Special Assistant on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood and senior officials attended the meeting.
The prime minister said that all efforts should be made to give maximum possible relief to the people. PM Khan urged that priorities and targets for the next public sector development program should be evidently defined with a focus on completion of the schemes rather than the mere beginning.
He also highlighted the need for the utmost utilization of the public-private partnership models and involving international development partners to improve and broaden the scope of the public sector development program.
He said the process of provision of subsidies should also be reviewed to make these interventions more effective and target-oriented. The economic impact in the wake of lockdown due to COVID-19 also came under discussion.
