ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will to address the nation today (Monday) on the prevailing security condition in the country.
This was confirmed by Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry who said the prime minister will address the nation at 4PM.
According to reports, the prime minister has convened three meetings at the Prime Minister House. One of them is being and is being attended by Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi and other federal ministers.
The prime minister has called a meeting of the ruling PTI’s political committee to discuss the current political situation and protests. The premier will also chair a meeting of party and government spokespersons to discuss the government’s future stance and guidelines.
The prime minister will be updated on the release of 11 policemen abducted by protesters in Lahore. He will be briefed on the negotiations between the government and the proscribed Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan.
The government is holding talks with the TLP who have threatened to march towards Islamabad on April 20. After the first rounds of talks early on Monday morning, the government and TLP reached a ceasefire after eleven policemen held hostage by the party were released.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said the officers have been released, while the TLP activists have gone to their central headquarter Rehmatul Lil Alameen mosque.
The second round of negotiations is expected to commence later in the evening. It will be held in a neutral place. Punjab Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar and Law Minister Raja Basharat are expected to hold a meeting with a five-member TLP committee.
