Rising petrol prices have triggered a sharp increase in demand for electric bikes in Karachi—because apparently paying daily fuel costs is everyone’s favourite hobby until it isn’t.
According to reports, the surge in demand has led to a complete depletion of stock at dealerships, with booking periods for well-known brands now extending from three to six months.
Consumers are increasingly turning to electric scooters to cut fuel expenses. In the city’s largest bike markets, customers are actively seeking electric options, only to discover that availability has politely disappeared.
Dealers say demand for electric bikes and scooters has risen significantly, with nationwide stock reportedly running out within just 15 days. Sales began a few days before Eid and, quite inconveniently for inventory, continued afterwards.
Buyers noted that despite rising prices, electric bikes remain difficult to obtain. One consumer pointed out that daily petrol expenses of around Rs500 amount to approximately Rs15,000 per month, hardly a charming budget item, making electric alternatives a more sensible long-term choice.
Another buyer highlighted environmental benefits alongside cost savings, noting that electric bikes help reduce expenses while also being more eco-friendly.
