LAHORE: The Punjab government has introduced a new vehicle fitness requirement, making an annual fitness test and certificate mandatory for private vehicles across the province.
Under the new rule, vehicle owners who fail to meet the requirement could initially face a challan, while continued non-compliance may lead to the vehicle being taken off the road.
Officials say there are currently only 13 fitness testing centres available to inspect millions of vehicles across Punjab. The limited number of facilities could result in overcrowding and delays for citizens seeking fitness certificates.
The government has set the annual fee for the certificate at Rs500 to Rs2,000, meaning vehicle owners will now have to account for an additional yearly expense alongside their routine vehicle-related costs.
