Pakistan’s economy stabilizes, but citizens gripped by inflation and corruption

The most recent and notable report released by Transparency International Pakistan (TI Pakistan) is the National Corruption Perception Survey (NCPS) 2025, published on December 9, 2025.

The NCPS 2025 report presents mixed public perceptions of corruption, highlighting some improvements in access to public services while noting that corruption remains a major public concern.

Bribe Frequency

A significant majority, 66% of respondents, reported that they did not have to pay any bribes for government services in the past 12 months.

Economic Stability

Nearly 60% of respondents agreed that the government’s measures, particularly the IMF agreement and removal from the FATF grey list, have helped stabilize the economy.

Most Corrupt Sectors

The Police were perceived as the most corrupt sector (24%), followed by tendering and procurement (16%) and the judiciary (14%).

Public Sentiment

While macroeconomic stability was acknowledged, 57% of citizens reported a decrease in their purchasing power due to inflation concerns.

Reform Demands

An overwhelming 78% of Pakistanis want anti-corruption bodies like the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to be more transparent and accountable themselves.
