A coordinated police operation has brought down an alleged car-lifting ring operating across multiple neighborhoods in Karachi as the Anti-Vehicle Lifting Cell (AVLC) detained three suspects, one of whom is the son of a serving police officer, and recovered four stolen or snatched vehicles, along with weapons, during the raid.
The group is believed to be responsible for a string of vehicle thefts and snatching cases reported in Bahadurabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Hyderi Market and North Nazimabad.
Investigators say the arrests were made after officers traced the suspects using Safe City surveillance footage, mobile data tracking and other intelligence inputs.
The suspects have been named as Muneer, son of Muqaddar Khan; Danish Ali alias Mir, son of Muhammad Aroos; and Moazzam Balti, son of Azam.
According to SSP AVLC Khalid Mustafa Korai, Danish, alias Mir and the son of a police officer, was leading the gang. The group had allegedly been active for months, using rented vehicles to carry out car-snatching operations in Karachi’s East and South districts. Police say they have obtained several CCTV clips showing the suspects in action.
During questioning, the arrested men reportedly admitted to multiple crimes and told investigators that the stolen vehicles were transported to Kuchlak, Balochistan, for sale.
