Pakistan’s first transgender TV anchor Marvia Malik has survived an assassination attempt in Lahore.
The news came to light after a tweet surfaced online that claimed that the transgender TV anchor was attacked in Lahore’s cantonment area by two gunmen who opened fire outside her residence.

As per the tweet, the motive behind the assassination attempt on Marvia is her activism. In 2018, Marvia Malik, a journalism graduate became the first transgender news anchor.
Prior to becoming a newscaster, Marvia Malik was a model. In an interview, she told BBC News that she was so excited when she got the anchor job that she had to stop herself from screaming.

She anchored her first show on a private broadcaster ‘Kohenoor’. Transgender people face discrimination in Pakistan and many struggle to find employment. Some are forced into begging, dancing, or prostitution to earn money.
