Police on Saturday have blocked certain key routes in Karachi before the Sindh Assembly session, leading to a backlog of traffic as motorists sought alternative paths amidst opposition protests alleging election irregularities. As a result, heavy congestion occurred on alternate routes, compounded by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam’s blockade of the Karachi-Hyderabad track in protest.
It’s worth noting that the provincial government has enforced Section 144, prohibiting gatherings of more than five people, in response to opposition claims of electoral malpractice and their subsequent call for protests ahead of the assembly session.
The commencement of the Sindh Assembly session in Karachi faced delays of over 40 minutes on Saturday, with lawmakers arriving late amidst demonstrations by JUI-F, GDA, PTI, and JI outside the chamber, decrying alleged election rigging.
In response to the challenging traffic situation, Pakistan Railway has authorized temporary stopovers at Drug Road and Landhi Stations for all departing trains from Karachi, but this arrangement is applicable only for Saturday, February 24th.
