The federal government of Pakistan on Sunday clarified that it has not announced any allowance for employees this Eid, dismissing reports circulating on social media as fake.
A notification recently circulating on social media claimed that the federal government had approved an Eid-ul-Fitr allowance for all its employees.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Finance confirmed that no such notification has been issued. The fake notification stated that all employees from grades 1 to 22 would be given an allowance amounting to 15% of their basic pay for Eid-ul-Fitr. It also claimed that the allowance would apply to all departments and divisions under the federal secretariat.
The notification, dated March 29 and carrying the number F.No.14(10R-3/2021-324), further stated that the allowance would have to be paid by the departments out of their budgets.
The memo even bears the signature of an officer named Fozia Hussain and has asked all departments to ensure strict compliance.
