As bad as the state of censorship in Pakistan is, Elon Musk, an American billionaire and owner of the popular social media platform X (Twitter), didn’t not share a series of posts critiquing Pakistan’s democracy and freedom of speech. Many had hoped for his input, especially since he claims to be an absolutist on this issue. However, it turns out that the posts attributed to Musk were actually shared by a parody account.
Pakistani social media users are circulating screenshots of posts dated April 23 on WhatsApp, believing them to be authored by Elon Musk on his platform X.
One of the posts reads, “Pakistan deserves freedom of speech! Every corner of the world deserves it.” Another suggests that X was following the law, “but it appears that the law itself is infringing on rights in Pakistan.”
In yet another alleged post, Elon Musk writes, “Democracy under attack in Pakistan.”
However, the X account responsible for these posts is, in fact, a parody account of Elon Musk, titled @ElonMuskVines. Its description clearly states, “commentary and parody account of the owner, executive chairman, and CTO of X Elon Musk.”
