Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi arrived in Tehran on Saturday for an important visit taking place amid the deadlock in negotiations between the United States and Iran.
According to diplomatic sources, the Pakistani minister is scheduled to hold meetings with senior Iranian officials during the visit to discuss bilateral matters and regional developments.
Iranian media reports suggested that Pakistan could once again play an active diplomatic role in efforts aimed at reviving the mediation process between Tehran and Washington.
Sources said Pakistan would encourage both the Iranian and American sides to adopt greater flexibility in order to move the negotiations forward.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Catholic spiritual leader Pope Leo for what he described as a principled stance against US attacks on Iran.
