It was last week when a group of Karachi University students designed a model for lightweight houses that are capable of sustaining floods by staying afloat.
Students of the Architecture Department presented the economical, environmentally friendly, and mobile design of houses that can be utilized in flood-affected regions and particularly in villages.
According to lecturer Wajiha Siddiqui, this idea was a bit inspired by the Japanese technique of building housing with light material as the country often gets hits by earthquake. “This way not only human lives can be saved but also it’s environmentally friendly and social integration,” she said.
Students of the Architecture Department’s goal was to create cheap and sustainable models for unprivileged people. These students invented a few houses with bamboo as its affordable and even in a flood-like situation, such models can easily float on water.
