Bahawalpur witnessed a shocking incident when a landlord allegedly severed the legs of a buffalo with an axe in the jurisdiction of Nowshera Jadeed police station.
According to police, the buffalo had entered the landlord’s crop field, prompting the extreme act. Authorities said a case has been registered, and the accused has been taken into custody.
Police added that further investigation is underway and legal action will be taken based on the findings.
Such incidents of animal cruelty are not uncommon in Pakistan. In recent years, several cases of extreme violence against livestock have been reported across the country, highlighting concerns about both animal rights and rural disputes.
For example, in 2022, a man in Punjab allegedly killed a cow in a fit of anger over crop damage, while in 2021, another case in Sindh drew widespread condemnation when a buffalo was severely injured by farm workers.
Animal welfare organizations have repeatedly urged authorities to enforce stricter laws and create awareness about humane treatment of livestock, emphasizing that such acts are punishable under Pakistan’s Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
