Defence police have arrested five alleged members of the White Corolla gang near Phase 7 Extension following an encounter, in which three suspects were injured in the exchange of fire.
According to police, the suspects opened fire as soon as they saw the officers, prompting a retaliatory response.
The three injured suspects, Ali Asghar, Wajid, and Muhammad Shabbir, were taken into custody, while two other accomplices, Majid Sultan and Ibrahim, were also arrested.
A police spokesperson said a white Corolla car, four mobile phones, a laptop, a 9mm pistol, and two .30 bore pistols were recovered from the suspects’ possession.
Initial investigations reveal that the arrested individuals have been involved in multiple criminal cases and were absconding in several instances. Police are also thoroughly reviewing the suspects’ prior criminal records.
The injured suspects have been shifted to a hospital for medical treatment, and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile in Gharibabad, a police officer was injured in firing by robbers and was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical attention.
According to the District Central Police spokesperson, a police officer had opened fire on the robbers in the jurisdiction of Sharifabad police station. The robbers returned fire while fleeing, injuring 38-year-old officer Shah Rukh in the leg.
Police said that the robbers managed to escape, and a search operation is underway.
