Taking to X on Friday, Minister Naqvi emphasized that the measure reflects the government’s commitment to stand by the people during extraordinary circumstances. “We will not leave the public alone in difficult situations. Citizens should use public transport instead of personal vehicles. As a result of the war, the world is suffering from a global economic crisis. As soon as the situation improves, we will relieve the public from economic burdens,” he said.
The announcement follows Punjab’s recent decision under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to make public transport free across all provincial cities, including the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Bus. Observers note that Islamabad’s move now extends similar relief to the federal capital, offering citizens a rare respite amid nationwide austerity measures.
Commuters in the federal capital have welcomed the initiative, calling it a timely intervention that will not only reduce household expenses but also encourage greater reliance on public transport networks.
