Under this historic announcement, commuters will no longer need to purchase tickets while traveling on the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus Service, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Bus. The initiative is being hailed as a major step to support the public at a time when rising petroleum, gas, and electricity prices have squeezed households nationwide.
Adding to the relief, registered motorcycle owners will receive a subsidy of Rs100 on every 20 liters of fuel, providing direct financial support to millions of families dependent on two-wheelers for daily mobility.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz described the package as a “people-first initiative”, reaffirming her government’s commitment to prioritize public welfare despite challenging economic conditions.
“We will not leave the public alone in difficult situations. In extraordinary circumstances, citizens should use public transport instead of personal vehicles. As a result of the war, the world is suffering from a global economic crisis. As soon as the situation improves, we will relieve the public from economic burdens,” she said.
Citizens across Punjab have welcomed the decision, calling it a “game-changer” that not only reduces financial stress but also encourages the use of eco-friendly transport options.
Observers note that Punjab has become the first province to introduce such a comprehensive transport relief plan, offering a rare sigh of relief amid nationwide austerity measures.
