Sindh announces Rs.2,000 monthly subsidy for motorcyclists

KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh has also unveiled a major relief initiative aimed at supporting millions of daily commuters across the province. Under the new scheme, registered motorcyclists will receive a monthly subsidy of Rs.2,000, with disbursements scheduled between April 15 and 20.

This comes after Punjab and Islamabad allowed free public transport in the wake of historic rise in prices of petroleum products.

There are some 6.6 million registered motorcyclists in the province and to ensure transparency and ease of access, the Sindh Chief Minister said a dedicated mobile app has been developed through which motorcyclists can register and claim the subsidy. Each rider will be entitled to Rs.100 per 20 liters of fuel, amounting to Rs.2,000 in direct support every month.

In addition, the provincial government has announced that motorcycle transfers will now be processed free of cost, further reducing expenses for citizens.

Murad Ali Shah emphasized that the initiative is designed to provide immediate relief in extraordinary circumstances.

“We will not leave the public alone in difficult situations. Citizens should use public transport instead of personal vehicles. As a result of the war, the world is suffering from a global economic crisis. As soon as the situation improves, we will relieve the public from economic burdens,” he said, echoing sentiments expressed earlier by Punjab’s leadership.

Interestingly, Sindh’s announcement follows similar relief measures in Punjab and Islamabad, where free public transport schemes have been introduced. Political observers believe that overall, these initiatives reflect a growing trend of people-first policies across provinces, offering citizens a rare respite amid nationwide austerity measures.
