TEHRAN: Iran has proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz through intermediaries, with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying the strategic waterway could be reopened within seven days if the United States meets certain conditions.
Speaking to journalists and representatives of US think tanks, Araghchi said the conditions put forward by Iran were not new and included the same points previously raised in the Islamabad memorandum of understanding.
According to the Iranian foreign minister, it would be preferable if the agreement were implemented before the US midterm elections.
Araghchi added that the proposed conditions were no different from the provisions included in the previous agreement. However, he said the timing of the agreement’s implementation depended on the United States.
