ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy has seized a large consignment of drugs being smuggled by sea in the Arabian Sea, with an estimated international market value of $750 million.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan Navy warships PNS Hunain and PNS Yarmook intercepted a suspicious fishing vessel during a maritime security operation.
The statement said more than 2,800 kilograms of drugs were recovered from the vessel during the successful operation. The contraband had allegedly been concealed with considerable skill for transportation by sea. The seized shipment is estimated to be worth approximately $750 million in the international market.
Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf praised the officers and crew members of both ships for their professionalism and performance during the operation.
In its statement, the ISPR reaffirmed that the Pakistan Navy remains vigilant against all forms of illegal activity in the country’s maritime areas and is committed to safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime interests.
