MUMBAI: India’s World Cup-winning former captain Kapil Dev has suffered a heart attack today (Friday) and underwent an emergency coronary angioplasty in New Delhi.
According to details, the 61-year-old has reportedly undergone angioplasty at a private hospital in the Indian capital and is in stable condition.
Ashok Malhotra, former cricketer and Indian Cricket Association president, said, “He is feeling okay now. I just spoke to his wife (Romi). He was feeling uneasy yesterday (Thursday). He is undergoing check-ups at a hospital as we speak.”
The Fortis Escorts, in a statement, said, “Cricketer Kapil Dev came to Fortis Escorts Heart Institute emergency department at 1:00 am on 23rd October with a complaint of chest pain.”
“He was evaluated and an emergency coronary angioplasty was performed in the middle of the night. Currently, he is admitted in ICU and is stable now. He is expected to get discharged in a couple of days,” it added.
Kapil Dev has been pretty active with his views on cricket in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020. The former Indian skipper was also dealing with diabetes-related health issues.
Kapil Dev, who made both his ODI and Test debuts against Pakistan, is regarded as one of the finest cricketers ever produced by India and captain the country to their first-ever World Cup triumph in 1983 against West Indies.
