In India, a husband who burned his wife alive on the basis of her dark complexion has been sentenced to death. Indian media says that Kishan Das used to taunt his wife Laxmi because of her deep-toned skin.
According to the report of the British broadcasting organization (BBC), the court of the Indian city of Udaipur sentenced the criminal named Kishan Das to death for the crime of burning his wife alive due to her dark complexion.
According to the report, the tragic incident occurred 8 years ago on the night of June 24, 2017, when Kishan Das burned his wife Laxmi alive. Before her death, Laxmi gave statements recorded to the police, doctors, and executive magistrate in which she said that her husband Kishan Das used to constantly taunt her because of her dark complexion.
According to Laxmi’s statement, she was married to Kishan Das in 2016. Since marriage, her husband used to call her “Kali.” On the night of Laxmi’s death, Kishan Das brought a bottle with a brown-colored liquid and gave it to her, telling her that this medicine would make her skin beautiful.
Laxmi told the police that when she applied this liquid on her body, her body started burning. After that, Kishan Das sprinkled more liquid on her and burned her alive before running away.
Later, Kishan Das’s parents and sister took Laxmi to the hospital where she died. The court declared Kishan Das’s crime as a crime against humanity and sentenced him to death.
