ISLAMABAD: The former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan on Saturday termed the arrest and police remand of his chief of staff Shahbaz Gill illegal and announced that PTI would move the Supreme Court(SC) against Islamabad IG, DIG and the judge for legal action.
He was addressing the PTI activists and supporters gathered at F-9 Park who reached there after taking out a rally from Zero Point against alleged torture on PTI leader Shahbaz Gill in police custody and to express solidarity with the detained leader.
He said the way Shahbaz Gill was ‘picked up’ was illegal as he warned Islamabad IG, DIG and female judge – who remanded Gill in police custody – of facing legal consequences over their actions.
Imran Khan said they are going to the Supreme Court against Islamabad IG, DIG and the judge.
He claimed that the torture of Shahbaz Gill was to terrify people to accept slavery.” The country is going towards real freedom and no one can stop it”, he added.
Imran Khan thanked the participants for gathering in Islamabad and other big cities of Pakistan on his call on 24-hour notice.
He cited the example of Mongol Emperor Genghis Khan who used to build towers from skulls to intimidate people who gave up without even fighting with him.
He linked it with the torture of Shahbaz Gill in jail as he said that it was being done to frighten people.
Imran Khan said that Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Fazlur Rehman, and others said far worse than what Gill said which had seriously inflicted damage on institution of army.
He added that the PTI leader held and tortured to convey a message to the people to accept slavery or else suffer the same fate.
Imran Khan said the nation would never accept the crooks imposed on it as the nation has awakened.
PTI chairman announced taking legal action against Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Nawaz Sharif and others for their statements against the military.
He said that due to ‘friendships’, these leaders were spared.
He called on the “neutrals” — the term he uses for the military establishment — to stand with the nation, justice and Pakistan, instead of “thieves”, referring to government leaders.
“I’m asking and want to say to the neutrals [that] this is a matter of the country. It’s very important for you to stand with the nation, justice and Pakistan and not these thieves (government leaders).”
Imran said he wanted to ask the neutrals if they were “really neutral”.
He alleged that whenever police officials were questioned about current events, they said they were not at fault and had gotten “orders from behind”.
“When I asked Islamabad police that ‘tell me what did you do [to Shahbaz Gill]’, I got an answer that ‘we did nothing, we got a boot from behind [to follow orders]’.”
Similarly, Imran alleged that when the time had come to pursue action and register cases against Lahore’s deputy inspector general (DIG) of police and capital city police officer for their treatment of PTI workers on May 25, “so our people there [in the Punjab government] got afraid and said: ‘We got telephone [calls] from there to not touch them.’”
It should be noted that in defiance of the deputy commissioner’s (DC) orders, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took out a rally in Islamabad that reach F-9 Park where the party staged a power show.
The rally was taken out against alleged torture PTI leader Shahbaz Gill – who is accused of sedition – was subjected to during his physical remand under Islamabad Police.
The former prime minister and PTI chairman Imran Khan led a convoy to the park after reaching Zero Point from his Bani Gala residence.
Earlier, PTI leader Ali Nawaz Awan had written an application to the DC, seeking permission and security for their rally in the federal capital.
However, the DC refused to provide security to the rally citing the enforcement of Section 144 in the city under which assembly of people was banned.
