LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Saturday said tapping of phone calls was a bid to pressurize the judges and undermine the rule of law in the country, terming the vile propaganda campaign against the judiciary as shameful.
“The PML-N has a history of assaulting the judiciary and it started the bad practice of buying judges,” Imran Khan said while meeting with columnists and senior writers at his Zaman Park residence in Lahore.
He asserted that attempts were being made to use illegal phone tapping to put pressure on the judges and prevent them from contributing to the supremacy of the Constitution. He continued, “The court was the nation’s only hope, so they should uphold the rule of law and the Constitution without caving in to pressure.”
He alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner was supporting the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in violating the Constitution, adding that attempts were being to frighten their allies through political victimization and hence the incumbent rulers were promoting political dictatorship in the country. “We will stop this shameful series of lawlessness, violation of democratic values and economic destruction with the support of the nation,” he added.
“It was impossible to achieve stability in Pakistan without establishing the rule of law in the country and economic stability could not be achieved without political stability,” he said, adding that fundamental rights were being flouted to enslave the nation.
Khan said the PTI would stop the lawlessness and economic crisis with the nation’s support. He added he had announced the commencement of the Jail Bharo movement for real independence.
He reiterated that former army chief General (R) Qamar Javed Bajwa admitted that he changed the government, and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was under his influence; “hence, he violated his oath”.
“Bajwa told me that since the US was not happy (with Pakistan) he made the statement, which contradicted the government’s policy on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. We should have remained neutral on the issue of Ukraine,” he added.
