KARACHI: Illegal occupation and construction continue unabated in different parts of the metropolis allegedly under the patronage of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA).
According to sources, illegal construction on more than 340 buildings in different parts of the city continues under the patronage of Sindh Building Control Authority’s officials.
Sources further disclosed most illegal buildings are under construction in Liaquatabad, Jamshed Town, Gulshan-e-Iqbal. Sources said more than 340 illegal buildings are under construction in Saddar Town, Old City area, North Nazimabad and Nazimabad areas.
SBCA officers supporting illegal construction allegedly receive millions in bribes, sources added. The Sindh Building Control Authority has provided all facilities to the mafia for illegal constructions.
Citizens of Karachi appealed judiciary and Prime Minister Imran Khan to take action against the corrupt officials of SBCA and the builder mafia who destroyed the city.
Meanwhile,  Illegal occupation of public lands continues unabated in the Manghopir area and along the Northern Bypass in District West allegedly under the patronage of influential politicians and the complacency of local authorities.
These illegal occupations have caused a loss of Rs16 billion to the national exchequer due to the inaction of the Lyari Development Authority (LDA). The authority has provided false documents for lands adjoining Mai Gari chowk, Chilgoza market and other areas of Manghophir.
District West administration continues allotment of public lands on bogus documents which include a fake stamp of a shell company. The administration has been selling plots of 80-120 square yards for Rs2-500,000 but no action is being taken against the authorities.
