A high-speed amusement ride collapsed during the Surajkund International Crafts Fair in the Indian city of Faridabad, killing a police inspector and injuring 13 others.
According to fair management, the ride—known as Tsunami—was operating between 6:15 pm and 6:30 pm and was carrying between 15 and 26 people at the time of the incident.
A structural failure in the support system caused the ride to tilt before crashing to the ground.
Video footage circulating online shows the ride hanging mid-air moments before it suddenly collapsed, triggering panic among visitors at the fair.
Police Inspector Jagdish Prasad, who was present at the site, was injured while attempting to rescue those on the ride.
He later succumbed to his injuries at hospital. Among the injured are children and a police constable, all of whom were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Following the incident, the entertainment zone of the fair was shut down, and an FIR has been registered against the ride operator. Authorities said a forensic team has been called in to investigate the cause of the accident and to examine possible violations of safety standards.
The incident has raised serious concerns over public safety and safety arrangements at large public events.
