LAHORE: Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik has warned that petrol prices in Pakistan could reach Rs1,000 per litre amid a sharp rise in global oil prices.
The minister said the current regional situation had entered a highly sensitive phase. He noted that following recent attacks by Houthi rebels on Saudi Arabia, crude oil prices in the international market had surged to around $132 per barrel.
Ali Pervaiz Malik said that if global pressure disrupted the supply chain and led to shortages, there was a possibility that petrol might not even be available at Rs1,000 per litre.
The federal minister also criticized the opposition, saying that merely criticizing the government or staging street protests was easy. He added that instead of limiting themselves to protest politics, political parties should also put forward practical solutions to the country’s challenges.
