ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sanaullah Khan has ridiculed the claims that Shahbaz Gill was being tortured during police custody, saying “he’s just faking it.”
Earlier, the PTI chairman Imran Khan had said that ‘Shahbaz Gill was humiliated in order to break him down and get a manipulative statement.
“All the pictures & videos show clearly Gill was tortured both mentally & physically including sexual abuse – most too gruesome to relate,” Mr. Khan communicated via twitter.
“Imran Khan is lying, as always, that Gill was sexually abused,” Rana Sana shrugged off the torture claims.
“No abuse of any kind occurred. Shahbaz Gill is just faking it. He was not tortured,” the federal minister said on a local tv channel.
He warned PTI leaders of legal action if they try to barge into the Red Zone or PIMS Hospital.
Islamabad police launched an inquiry into the allegations of physical torture on Gill. An important session was held at DIG Headquarters in Islamabad which was attended by the investigation team and police high-ups.
Earlier, an Islamabad court suspended the physical remand of PTI leader Shahbaz Gill until Monday after reserving a verdict on a police plea for his eight-day physical remand in a case under sedition charges.
The court while rejecting the plea for extension in physical remand, directed the Islamabad police to transfer him to PIMS Hospital and conduct a complete medical check-up of the suspect.
Gill has been in police custody since August 9 when the Islamabad police arrested him in a sedition case after he passed controversial remarks on a private news channel.
According to the Islamabad police spokesperson, he was booked on charges of sedition and inciting members of state institutions against the Pakistan Army.
