Following the entry of a new westerly weather system, fresh spells of rain have increased the risk of flash flooding in various parts of the country.
In different areas of Balochistan, at least two people have died and several others have been injured due to drowning in streams and other rain-related incidents.
According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall is expected to continue in most parts of the country until 31 March, with the possibility of heavier downpours and flash flooding in some areas.
The Met Office stated that a new westerly wave entered Balochistan from Iran on Tuesday evening, covering most parts of the province by Wednesday.
As a result, intermittent rain, strong winds and thunderstorms are being experienced in multiple areas.
Officials say the worst-affected region is Kech district in the Makran Division, near the Iranian border, where daily life has been disrupted by recent rains.
Deputy Commissioner Kech, Yasar Iqbal Dashti, reported up to 20mm of rainfall in Turbat, Nasirabad, Mand and Tump. Two people died after being swept away in streams in Tump and Turbat.
Reports have also been received of collapsing roofs, damaged poles, and disruption to transport in Hoshab, Balida and Tump.
According to officials, the Balida road was blocked due to landsliding but has since been reopened for traffic, while traffic flow has resumed despite partial damage to the Roodbin bridge.
The Deputy Commissioner added that the water level in Mirani Dam is rising steadily and has reached 241 feet, while the spillway level stands at 244 feet. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
Rainfall has also been recorded in Panjgur, Noshki, Kharan, Awaran, Kalat, Jhal Magsi, Nasirabad, Quetta, Mastung, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Chaman and Ziarat over the past 24 hours.
According to the latest Met Office report, Khuzdar received 16mm of rain, Kalat 14mm, Chaman 11mm and Pishin 9mm, with a noticeable drop in temperatures in several areas.
The department has warned that intermittent rain, strong winds and hailstorms may continue in the coming days, with a risk of moderate flooding in northeastern and southwestern regions.
It further warned of a possible sudden rise in water levels in streams in Kharan, Turbat, Kech, Noshki and Panjgur tonight and on Thursday due to heavy rainfall.
Elsewhere in Balochistan, several incidents have been reported due to rain. In Kohlu, two people were injured after a roof collapse, one of whom was shifted to Multan in critical condition.
In Harnai, a six-year-old girl was injured in a similar incident, while in Jaffarabad, a 15-year-old boy drowned in the Heerdin drain and remains missing, with rescue operations ongoing.
In Gandawah, Jhal Magsi, one person was injured after a house roof collapsed.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority has directed all districts to take precautionary measures in view of possible flooding.
Authorities have advised citizens, particularly travellers and tourists, to avoid unnecessary movement.
