The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) demonstrated a steady performance in both interbank and open markets on Friday, January 30, 2026, supported by a fresh influx of foreign exchange reserves.

Despite a massive single-day rout at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), where the KSE-100 index plunged over 6,000 points due to regional geopolitical tensions, the national currency remained largely resilient.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported a stable interbank position, while open market rates showed a slight premium for major currencies.

While the currency has found a firm floor, analysts from Dawn and local brokerage houses note that “regime shifts” and external shocks remain risks. The current meltdown in the equity market triggered by US-Iran tensions and weak corporate earnings, has yet to spill over into the forex market, but the central bank remains on “constant vigilance” to prevent speculative hoarding.
