Five labourers drown in factory’s chemical tank

KARACHI: Five labourers drowned in the chemical tank of a factory in SITE area of Karachi on Saturday.

The incident occurred as the labourers were cleaning the chemical tank inside the industrial unit located when they fell into it and drowned, while all efforts to save them were in vain.

Rescue officers retrieved the bodies of the labourers from the tank and shifted them to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. The deceased workers have not been identified.

Sindh Minister for Trade and Industries Jam Ikramullah Dharejo has taken notice of the tragic death of the labourers. He has instructed the Managing Director SITE to visit the site of the incident with a team and inspect the factory.

The minister said those responsible for any negligence should be held responsible and action should be taken against them. Factories owners have been instructed to have adequate safety steps to prevent such incidents. He also instructed to provide all possible assistance to the heirs of the victims.
